1.0 Favourites

  1. Add films to your Favourites list by clicking the heart icon that appears when you hover over the film poster.

    Or on the right of the title on the film page.

  2. To see the films you've bookmarked, click the heart icon in the top menu.

    Or click the profile icon in the top right corner of the screen. Then, click Profile.

  3. Then, select Favourites from the left-hand menu. There, you can see films added to your Favourites list.

    You can also click History to see the list of films that you have viewed.

2.0 Personalising your Recommendations

  1. Go to your Profile at the top right.

  2. Then, select Recommendations from the left-hand menu.

  3. And choose the genres of movies, documentaries, and series that you prefer. Don’t forget to hit Save.

  4. Now, your Beamafilm home page carousel will recommend films more in line with your own personal preferences!

3.0 Filtering and Sorting

To see the entire catalogue click SUBJECTS at the top navigation menu, and then ALL TITLES.

3.1 Filtering

You can filter the results by HD, Beamafilm Exclusives, Kids Films, Short Films, Closed Captions, Subtitles, Age Classification, or Country.

3.2 Sorting

You can also sort results by Recently Added, Popular, Year Released, or A-Z.

4.0 Captions

There are hundreds of foreign language titles with English subtitles hardcoded into the video available under the Subjects menu. Closed Captions for English language titles are also available for selected films.

  1. To view films with Subtitles or Closed Captions, select SUBJECTS and click ALL TITLES.

  2. Now you can filter by Closed Captions or Subtitles.

  3. To access the Closed Captions while a film is playing, click the CC button at the bottom right of the player to enable captions if they are available.

    Closed Captions are currently not available for trailers.


5.0 Tools

Beamafilm provides a variety of handy tools such as Citation, Clipping and Resources to enhance your user experience.

Open a film you're interested in and click the 'Tools' button to open the block.

5.1 Share

You can share a film either by copying a link or clicking one of the social media icons.

5.2 Citation tool

A Citation tool can be used when you want to reference a film in your work. Just click the 'Copy Text' button and the generated text will be saved to your clipboard, then you can paste it where needed.

You can choose from APA, Harvard, MLA and Chicago citation styles.

5.3 Clipping tool

Note: You need to have a user profile to access the Clipping tool. You can share the clip with any Beamafilm account user who also has access to the film.

Create a clip of a particular film fragment and share it with another Beamafilm user.

  1. First, give your clip a title.

  2. Play the film and use the 'Capture' buttons to select a Start Time and Stop Time. It will grab the exact film moment and the time code will appear in the corresponding fields.

  3. Then, click 'Save'.

  4. To see all your clips – click the profile icon in the top right corner of the screen. Then, click Profile.

    Select Clippings from the left-hand menu. There, you can see all clips you made. You can share or delete a clip there.

5.4 Resources

Most of the films have Resources like interviews, official websites, study guides, student worksheets or overviews.

Scroll down the Film page and you will see a list of links below the description.

You can view resources for all films from the Resources link in the Footer at the bottom of every page.

There, you can filter and/or sort the results. Or you can search for a specific title.

6.0 Casting from your computer or device to your TV

Using a Chromecast device, you can cast videos from your computer or mobile devices directly to your TV. All you need is a TV, a Chromecast device, a WiFi connection and the Chrome browser or the Beamafilm app.

Steps:
  1. Make sure your computer and Chromecast device are on the same WiFi network
  2. Open the film you want to watch
  3. Click 'View Film'
  4. Click the Chromecast icon on the player to cast the video to your TV screen

6.2 Casting via Apple TV

If you have an Apple TV, you can cast videos from your computer, iPhone or tablet directly to your TV using AirPlay. All you need is:

  • Apple computer running OS X Tiger (v10.4.11) or later
  • iPhone 4 or later. iPhone 4s or later for AirPlay Mirroring
  • iPad, iPad mini, iPad 2 or later for AirPlay Mirroring
  • iPod touch (4th generation or later) for AirPlay Mirroring
Steps:
  1. Make sure your Mac computer or iOS device (as shown above) and your Apple TV are connected to the same WiFi network
  2. On your iOS device, swipe down from the top right-hand corner of your screen (iPhone X and later) or swipe up from the bottom of the screen (iPhone SE, iPhone 8 and earlier, and iPod touch) to open the Control Center
  3. Tap AirPlay
  4. Tap the name of the device you want to cast to - your TV will be identified with a small icon of television

Ensure your OS is up to date - older generation Apple TV's may experience a slighty delay in playback.

Difference between AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring:

AirPlay means that any audio or video on your iOS device will be displayed on your TV screen. AirPlay mirroring will show the entire screen of the connected device on your TV screen. Both methods will cast Beamafilm to your TV.

6.3 HDMI

Using a HDMI cable, you can connect your laptop to your television so that you can view content from your laptop on your TV. All you need is a TV with a HDMI port and a HDMI cable.

Steps:
  1. Plug your HDMI cable into your laptop, and then into the HDMI port on your TV
  2. Select the HDMI input on your TV with the remote (usually the 'Source' button)
  3. You should now see and hear everything on your laptop on your television

7.1 Mobile Apps
Android Devices

Beamafilm is available on supported android devices (Android 6 Marshmallow or later). Download the Beamafilm Android app from the Google Play Store here.

iOS Devices

Beamafilm is available on supported iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch models running iOS 10.0 or later. 'Sign in with Apple' is available for iOS 13 or later. Download the Beamafilm iOS app from the App Store here.

7.2 TV Apps
Android TV App

The Beamafilm TV App is available to download from the App Store on your Android TV or Chromecast.

Steps:
  1. Search for Beamafilm in the App Store on your Android TV or Chromecast
  2. Enter your email and password
  3. If you don't have a password, log in to your Beamafilm account on your browser or mobile app, then create a new password in your profile settings
  4. You now have full access to the Beamafilm catalogue on your TV!
Apple TV App

The Beamafilm TV App is available to download from the App Store on your Apple TV.

Steps:
  1. Search for Beamafilm in the App Store on your Apple TV
  2. Enter your email and password
  3. If you don't have a password, log in to your Beamafilm account on your browser or mobile app, then create a new password in your profile settings
  4. You now have full access to the Beamafilm catalogue on your TV!
