In Iran a little girl and her father secretly listen to illegal western music. Pink Floyd is a favourite, but if they are discovered their lives may be under threat. A young Persian man sings and speaks out against oppression and injustice. Separately the young musicians flee their homeland seeking asylum in Australia, finding themselves in an unwelcoming country facing an uncertain future. Encountering the Scattered People band in immigration detention they are welcomed into a new life through music, finding their voice yet at the same time still living in a suffocating limbo on temporary protection visas.
With passionate musicians Missy Higgins, John Butler, Archie Roach, Katie Noonan, Dan Sultan, Michael Franti, Robbie James (GANGgajang), Harry James Angus and more, we find how music helps unite, heal and restore our compassion for some of the most vulnerable people on our planet. They discover community as music breaks down barriers, gives them purpose, shapes their identities and renews their hope for the future.
