Beamafilm & Civica Partnership: Optimising the User Experience and Library Operations
Sydney, Australia | Oct 01 2022

Beamafilm, an Australian-owned streaming platform specialising in independent film, documentaries and culturally diverse content, has announced an integration with Spydus by Civica, helping libraries make Beamafilm easier for patrons to discover and access while reducing the administrative workload associated with managing digital film collections.

The integration combines secure web authentication with dynamic cataloguing, connecting Beamafilm more closely with the library systems patrons and librarians already use.

Seamless, secure access for library members

Through the Spydus web authentication integration, patrons at participating libraries can access Beamafilm using their existing library credentials.

Member information is securely validated against the library management system, creating a simpler journey from the library to Beamafilm while ensuring access is restricted to eligible library members.

Keeping library catalogues automatically up to date

The integration also enables dynamic cataloguing, helping libraries make their Beamafilm collection discoverable directly through their catalogue without librarians having to continually add and remove individual title records manually.

As Beamafilm's catalogue evolves, Spydus can periodically synchronise relevant records, adding new titles and removing records when required. This helps ensure patrons are discovering an accurate and current representation of the films available to them while significantly reducing ongoing catalogue maintenance for library staff.

Most importantly, it brings streaming film into the library's established discovery environment. Patrons searching the catalogue for a subject, filmmaker or title can discover relevant Beamafilm content alongside the library's books and other resources — making the digital film collection more visible and easier to use.

Louise van Rooyen, Managing Director of Beamafilm, said:

“Libraries increasingly offer their communities rich collections of digital content, but that content needs to be easy to discover and access. Our integration with Spydus helps achieve both — bringing Beamafilm titles into the library catalogue while enabling members to move seamlessly from discovery to streaming using their existing library credentials.”

“It also reduces the work required behind the scenes. Automating catalogue updates means librarians can spend less time maintaining records while patrons benefit from a collection that remains current and discoverable.”

The Spydus integration forms part of Beamafilm's broader commitment to integrating with the technology platforms libraries already use, removing barriers between discovery and viewing and helping libraries maximise the value and visibility of their digital collections.
