Beamafilm Integrates with Ex Libris to Bring Film into the Heart of Academic Discovery

Beamafilm, an Australian-owned streaming platform specialising in independent film, documentaries and culturally diverse content, has announced the integration of its film catalogue with Ex Libris discovery and knowledge base services from Clarivate, making Beamafilm content easier for students, researchers and faculty to discover through their institution’s existing library systems.

The integration brings Beamafilm into the academic discovery environment through the Ex Libris Central Discovery Index (CDI) and Knowledge Bases, enabling participating libraries to make their licensed Beamafilm collections discoverable alongside other scholarly and educational resources.

The Ex Libris Central Discovery Index supports both Primo and Summon, providing a unified discovery index for academic resources from publishers, aggregators, and repositories worldwide. Importantly for Beamafilm, CDI supports video as a resource type.

Through the integration, Beamafilm titles can surface within relevant searches in Primo and Summon, helping students and researchers discover films and documentaries as part of their normal research journey rather than needing to know about Beamafilm and search the streaming platform separately.

For example, a student researching Indigenous history, climate change, international cinema or a particular filmmaker could discover a relevant Beamafilm title alongside books, journal articles and other resources available through their library.

The integration with Ex Libris Knowledge Bases also makes it easier for libraries to activate and manage access to Beamafilm collections within their existing electronic resource workflows.

Ex Libris maintains Knowledge Bases and the Central Discovery Index to support the availability, linking and discovery of electronic resources across products including Alma, Primo and Summon.
