Did you know that Halloween is a contraction of All Hallows’ Eve or All Saints' Eve? It originates from the festival of Samhain celebrated by the Celts of ancient Britain and Ireland from as early as the 9th Century. During the Samhain festival, it was believed that the souls of the dead returned to visit their homes on the night of October 31st and people would dress up as saints and recite songs door to door asking for "soul cakes," a treat similar to biscuits.
