As the festive season progresses, families and communities around the world traditionally come together to exchange gifts and celebrate love, light, reflection, and hope. In Sydney, however, this season has been marked by deep sorrow following the recent Bondi Beach attack, in which a group was targeted while celebrating Chanukah, the Festival of Lights.

Our thoughts are with those directly affected and with broader communities as they process the shock and grief of these events.

Stories matter - especially now

This moment serves as a sobering reminder of the essential role that shared stories play in our communities. Films can open windows to understanding, compassion, and shared humanity, and libraries are not only places of learning but spaces where people discover great stories and encounter perspectives beyond their own.

At Beamafilm, we believe that film is one of the most powerful tools for exploring our differences, confronting injustice, and celebrating cultural richness. As we move through the holiday season, we invite you to engage with stories that promote peace, tolerance, and inclusion, whether together with family and friends or quietly alone.

Watchlist recommendations for this holiday season ahead

Our watchlist for this season spotlights stories that offer context, humanity, and an invitation to listen and understand different perspectives. These are stories that champion diverse voices and lived experiences across cultures, identities, beliefs, and communities.

This holiday season, whether you're gathering with family or friends for Christmas, Chanukah, New Year, or observing quieter, more personal traditions, we hope our diverse selections below will open a window to understanding, helping to make this season one of inclusion and peace.

Watch for FREE with a participating library card or on a 30-day trial. Also, you can rent a film for 72 hours.
