Life Off Grid is a two-year journey exploring the lives of Canadians in every province and territory who have made the choice to disconnect. Life Off Grid is a film about people who have chosen to build their lives around renewable energy, with beautiful, inspiring, and often challenging results.
Humans, as a species, are currently facing many challenges: climate change; overpopulation; and an increasing sense of disconnect from each other, and from our roots.
“Life Off Grid” follows the people who decide to discard their previous lifestyles to become self-sufficient. They produce their own electricity from renewable sources, build their own homes, and discard unnecessary technology. They also relearn skills lost to most of the population, such as growing food and weaving textiles. What prompts this drastic lifestyle change, and what are the benefits and challenges of such a situation? Director Jonathan Taggart and host Phillip Vannini find out.
Self-sufficiency is a growing movement around the world, and in Australia. “Life Off the Grid” is an intimate look at a different way of life.
