“Fashions fade, style is eternal.” Yves Saint Laurent is one of the most celebrated designers of the 20th century. But who was he, really? Find out in this award-winning biopic.
French director Bertrand Bonello takes charge of a magnificent cast and crew to bring the story of this iconic figure to life. “Saint Laurent” focuses on Laurent’s career peak, from 1967 to 1976. A period which brought us the tuxedo for women, the trapeze dress, and many other iconic styles. Gaspard Ulliel stars as the title character in a powerhouse performance, with Jérémie Renier as Pierre Bergé, Laurent’s long time business and occasionally romantic partner.
Bonello’s opulent film is a feast for the eyes, with lavish production design and featuring exquisite fashions. But it never loses its intimacy in portraying its subject.
Winner of 7 Awards (with an additional 22 nominations including the coveted Palm d’Or), this film is a great tribute to one of fashion’s greatest figures – the man who brought us tuxedos for women, trapeze dresses, and a host of other stylistic innovations. He also once said “Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it”, a great message for women the world over.
